Your visit, from hello to goodbye

  1. Arrive and feel at home

Meet Ming, settle in, and make yourself comfortable around the table.

  2. Share a home-cooked Chinese and fusion meal

Enjoy Ming's family recipes and travel-inspired fusion dishes, built around the season's vegetables. Vegetarian, no-pork and no-beef guests are welcome. Most allergies can be accommodated with advance notice, but soy-free isn't possible because Chinese sauces are soy-based.

  3. Stay for the conversation

Relax while Ming cooks. She loves hearing guests' stories and sharing the Shanghai she knows. On weekends her girlfriend usually joins to chat. Most visits last about two hours.

Portrait of Ming

Welcome

Welcome to my home, an apartment in a heritage villa, which is in a quiet corner of downtown Shanghai where you can see everyday Shanghainese life. I'm not a trained chef. I cook family recipes I learned with my parents, mixed with flavours I've picked up travelling the world, and I build each menu around the season's vegetables and what you like to eat. Come hungry and curious: I love hearing people's stories, and sharing the Shanghai I know and love.

About me

I'm Ming, my Chinese and English name. I used to work in finance and I'm not a trained chef. I'm on a gap year to slow down, and cooking is my greatest passion: family recipes from my parents, plus flavours from my travels.

Languages

I speak Mandarin and English.

Outside the kitchen

I explore art and literature and blend them with food when I host communal dinners. For me, food is about connection and how we see the world, so I can't wait to hear your stories.

Travel experience

I love travelling and collecting flavours along the way, from Thailand to Marrakesh and Gran Canaria. In Barcelona I hosted dinners of my own. I blend what I find with my family recipes into my own style.
